About this hotel

Itachuna Rajbari – A Weekend Retreat into Royal Bengal

If you’re seeking a weekend escape wrapped in royal charm and rich history, Itachuna Rajbari is the ideal destination. Located in Itachuna village, near Khanyan in Hooghly district and just about 90 km from Kolkata, this 250-year-old heritage mansion offers an immersive experience into Bengal’s regal past. Also known as Bargee Danga, the Rajbari traces its roots to the Maratha warriors, known as Bargees, who once raided Bengal and later settled down as influential zamindars. The palace was built in 1766 by the ancestors of Shri Safallya Narayan Kundu, and the name “Itachuna” — meaning “brick and lime” — reflects its grand construction.

The moment you walk through the large iron gate, you’re greeted by manicured lawns, elegant gardens, and a majestic white arched façade. The ambiance transports you to a bygone era of nobility. Rooms are spacious, adorned with antique wooden furniture, and fitted with modern comforts. A warm welcome with traditional Aam Pora Sharbat and delicious Bengali meals served in the vintage dining room further enhance the experience.

Whether it’s a romantic getaway, a heritage tour, or simply a break from the city, Itachuna Rajbari offers a serene royal retreat like no other.
